PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY. CANON TIPS

Do not be afraid to experiment with different positions for shooting when photographing your loved ones. In the literal sense, bowing before the object of adoration you not only express your attitude towards him, but also find an interesting point for shooting from the bottom up. And it is possible and vice versa, climb higher – for example, on the stairs (just be careful!).

Shoot with wide aperture for better illumination.
When shooting portraits outdoors, expose a wide aperture. This provides a shallow depth of field, so that the background behind the person is slightly blurred, and his figure or face will clearly stand out in the picture.

Use short exposure for bright moments.

People are constantly moving, even when posing. To avoid unnecessary blur in pictures, use a short shutter speed.

Decide how to position the person in the frame

Before starting a photo shoot, think about where exactly you will be shooting: in an urban environment or in nature, on a minimalist background or, on the contrary, in the thick of things? Try to enlarge the image so that the heroes or heroine of the photo shoot are captured in close-up shots.

Good results can also be achieved if you place the person closer to the edge of the frame, keeping the background visible – the street, green meadow or home environment.

Play with the background
When shooting portraits in the spotlight should always be a man. However, the mood of the picture can be influenced by changing the background and thereby emphasizing the individuality of a person or the characteristics of his surroundings. If you take a picture of a person on a crowded subway platform, you get one shot, and if you are on a bench in a quiet park, this is completely different. Sometimes it makes sense to take a picture completely on a simple background – in front of a wall or a curtain without a picture.

Choose natural or spectacular poses
Portrait shots sometimes look unnatural. To avoid this effect, keep the camera close at hand and catch unexpected smiles and other facial expressions.

If you are closer to the staged portraits, ask the person to stand closer to the left or right edge of the frame and look away from the camera – this will give mystery. It is the facial expression of the model that can turn a good portrait shot into a great one. Try experimenting with different emotions.

Choose the right camera and lens for brighter portraits.
Canon EOS 80D – great for portrait shooting. Thanks to the sensor with a resolution of 24.2 megapixels, the images will convey the most elusive features of your loved one, and the cross-type 45-point focusing system will allow you to clearly capture fleeting moments.

In combination with a wide aperture, the EOS 80D camera will easily select the model in the frame. Lenses with a focal length of 50 to 100 mm are ideal for portraits, while you can also use macro lenses.

To get the most out of the wide aperture, use the aperture priority mode (Av) or the manual mode (M) and adjust the ideal shutter speed using the Auto Sensitivity feature.
